FLIMS, SWITZERLAND — The Canadian women’s team defeated Sweden 6-4 on Tuesday to remain unbeaten at the world junior curling championships.
Ottawa native Rachel Homan scored one in the 10th end to seal the women’s victory and improve to 6-0.
The Canadian men’s team had a share of top spot after posting a pair of wins Tuesday. Skip Jake Walker, who plays out of Kitchener’s Westmount Curling Club, led his rink to a 11-6 win over Denmark and a 6-5 victory over Sweden.
Canada, Norway and Scotland lead the standings at 5-1.
In the early game, Walker stole three in the first end and added four in the fourth end to put the match out of reach.
Later on, Walker escaped with a victory over Sweden when skip Patric Mabergs narrowly missed his last shot that could have forced an extra end.
Also Tuesday, Norway posted a 6-4 win over Russia and a 6-5 victory over Sweden, while Scotland recorded a 5-4 win over Finland and a 6-3 victory over China.
China and Switzerland are tied at 4-2.
In the women’s standings, Switzerland and Sweden are tied for second place at 5-1. Switzerland beat China 8-4 and the United States whipped Germany 11-3. Russia downed the Czech Republic 9-3 and Scotland topped France 8-3.
