Re:

I am a frustrated parent living in Breslau.

I am the parent of a very active 16-year-old daughter who goes to Eastwood Collegiate in the integrated arts program. I am spending all of my spare time and money driving her all over the place. Grandma drives her to school, but now her hours of work have changed and recently my daughter has been dropped off in the dark at a locked school. This is dangerous. I am unable to drive her in the morning as my son goes to school in Breslau, and my driving her would make him late for school. She cannot take the bus because there are no buses in Breslau. It’s too dangerous to walk to the bus on Lackner Drive as she would have to walk along Highway 7 where there are no sidewalks, and despite posted speed limits of 70 km/h the cars usually travel at more like 100/km/h.

She cannot get a part-time job due to the lack of transit, and is very limited when it comes to hanging out with her friends, as she has to arrange for rides to and from.

I am not the only parent in this predicament in Breslau. I know of one family that bought a house in Breslau and less than a year later sold their house because of the lack of transit for their teens. What happens to families in Breslau that cannot afford a vehicle? How would they potentially get to a job, doctors, and other very vital everyday life events?

I find this strange as there is Grand River Transit service to Elmira and Cambridge, but not Breslau. We are so close to Kitchener. It’s exactly on kilometre from the Kitchener boundary to Breslau. It would only take three or four stops to reach everyone in Breslau. It just makes sense to extend the GRT service to Breslau. Breslau is growing so rapidly, with two new large subdivisions and a new community centre expected this year.
